Statistical Research Methods in Geography

Geography is a diverse research field, meaning that people doing geographic research need a broad tool kit to address the range of potential problems to be solved. It is also important to recognize that geographic research can be done poorly. Such bad research reflects on the entire field. Thus, it is important for everyone in the geography community for new researchers to have a solid grasp of the key motivations for statistical analysis, the types of issues that can be addressed through such tools, and the range of statistical options that we can draw on that match the issues geographers commonly encounter.
