I am always interested in talking with prospective students. I welcome inquiries from students who are up for a knowledge- and skill-building challenge at either the undergraduate (BS/BA) or graduate (MS) level. My particular teaching focus is on courses within the emerging location intelligence field. The UNT Location Intelligence Research Group website provides an overview of the learning community and career possibilities that you can access through our UNT Geography faculty, alumni, and students.

Book Resources

Below are two book resources I have created (or co-created) that link to the courses you see on this page. In particular, I use these two books in my GEOG 4220/5220 (fall semester) and GEOG 4230/5230 (spring semester) courses.

Past Teaching: Archived Course Material
  • GEOG 1200: Global Societies (World Regional Geography)
  • GEOG 4210/5210: Urban Geography
  • GEOG 5190: Advanced Quantitative Techniques
  • GEOG 5800: Research Design and Geographic Applications
I may teach one or more of the above courses again in the future, but they are not on my current teaching schedule. Please note that there are undoubtedly some broken links and missing resources in these course pages, as I am not actively maintaining these pages like I do with my currently-offered courses. However, these archived pages give a good idea of the overall structure and emphasis I have created for each of these past courses. Lastly, please note that most of these courses may be offered in the coming year by my UNT Geography faculty colleagues.

Related Teaching Resources

There are a few primary software resources that I currently use in my classroom teaching. All of the below are excellent GIS/geospatial data analytics packages that combine a solid core of analytical capabilities with good datasets. I recommend all of these packages highly, although they each have distinctive strengths:
  • Caliper's Maptitude (general-purpose GIS package with good census datasets and analytical capabilities)
  • Esri's Business Analyst Web App (BA Web) (user-friendly cloud GIS package focusing on basic business location and market analytics)
  • Alteryx (powerful data management software with extensive geospatial analytical capabilities)

Lastly, please check out my YouTube channel for videos related to each of my classes.
