Further Reading on the US and Canada

Below are some worthy reads related to the US and Canada, including regional works (such as Frazier's Great Plains) and publications about broad issues that impact our continent (such as Diamond's works on human societies and Glaeser's book on the city). The list is admittedly rather eclectic and will change as I have time to edit it (a couple of classic books providing some regional insight into Canada's culture and history even fall into the fiction genre). The books and articles listed below do not represent required readings for the course, but they do give interesting background on some of the topics we discuss in class.
A couple of further notes:
  1. I particularly appreciate books and articles that provide historical and/or geographical context for people and events, so there is a lot of that below. I encourage you to seek out further readings on subjects and locations beyond what is listed here (and please do let me know what you find!).
  2. Some links may take you to a journal website to view a specific article published in that journal. You can access full-text versions of the article if you are accessing this page from a UNT computer. Other links related to books may take you to an Amazon.com site. You do not need to purchase these books, but the Amazon links provide a handy summary of key information about each book.
